Saturday was a festive day at the Vite Bike Ranch. Fans, friends, and the curious met there for the official Jac Attack Kick-off. Bike Ride, food, and the Schlitter Encore bike debut were but a few of the attractions. The main event was the celebration of the Jac Attack race team preparations for the 10 June Race Across America.
I can confidently proclaim Jacquie and her Crew as ready. She is very comfortable where she is regarding her training schedule. At this point the power numbers are right where they need to be. Forty-two days out and she is learning to love the intervals which were once a dread. The experienced Crew is on top of the prep. Like Jacquie, they seem ahead of the schedule and are planning for as many “what if’s” as possible.
Racing with four different recumbent brands may sound unusual but perhaps it’s not as risky as I first thought. According to Team Jac Attack, Jacquie is wickedly fast on all of them. Having four different bike choices will give her a lot of latitude if any comfort issues come into play. That’s my theory anyway. It will be fun to watch how the four-bike option plays out.
Jacquie Schlitter Quote: “I am inspired by all the support I have received from my crew, friends and total strangers. I know I am incredibly lucky to be able to take on this challenge and I plan to make the most of it.”
And I have no doubt she will. Win, lose, or draw this is going to be an exciting year for Recumbenteers. I can’t wait.

It’s happening Saturday — one of the biggest events in recumbent racing. The Sebring 12/24 hour ultramarathon race in Sebring Florida. Recumbents from across the country will flock to this open bicycle race. If you miss it, shame on you. Put it on the calendar for 2015 and you’ll be glad you did. It’s worth the effort. Weather is looking to be in the 60′s-70′s. Racers may see a little wind; but I don’t hear anyone from Michigan complaining. This is one of the few races Jacquie will be entering before her solo RAAM attempt. During the race she will swap out different platforms such as the front wheel drive Vendetta to a rear wheel drive Zockra to make sure this will work during RAAM. Her lofty goal is to break the 500-mile mark for a second time in this 24-hour race. The wind will make it pretty tough for her; but don’t be surprised if she pulls it off. This is Sebring and we will see recumbents as well as uprights set several new and personal records. Wish I could be there!
